Subject: RE: Art - The Nature Of The Bourgeoisie.

I found this article by Quentin Von Pellegrino in the Evening standard:

Jarvis's audacious take on the 'Boho' noughties has received widespread critical acclaim. The former Credit Suisse McIntosh 2003 winner is now exhibiting his work for a second time at London's Serpentine. His series of evocative images overlaid with thoughtful and insightful comments are truly art history in the making. His pièce de résistance, however, is a piece entitled ‘The Nature of the Bourgeoisie’. Of course this particular work is a reappraisal of the ‘nature of man’ and is really a comment on man’s relationship with technology. We see in the man's hand a mobile phone; that ubiquitous umbilical cord connecting us to others and the ‘virtual’ consciousness of the Internet, while the same man stands in front of an imposing building. The gargantuan nineteenth century construction harks to a different era of man’s technological mastery but Jarvis’s composition forces us to reconcile the amoral power and brutality of nature against the weakness of our own flesh and bones. The accompanying overlaid comment sublimely brings the work right up to the days of Belsize Park, SUVs on urban streets and flexible working. These profound and darkly comic elements repeat themselves throughout Jarvis’s œuvre and show a continuing maturity and harnessing of the raw aggressive talent we saw in 2003 with 'The Urination Series'. Bravo Mr. Jarvis I have one thing left to say: "Quoi!"
